Mary Street Congregation

Here’s an interesting letter sent by Richard Meade (the executor of Hannah Pursey’s will) to the Mary Street Chapel in 1828. It lists among the signatories Elizbeth Pursey (either daughter of John and Hannah Pursey (Edmonds) or daughter of their son Samuel and Rachel (Mall).

Other familiar names are Phippen and Cornish (William Phippen and Samuel Cornish respectively married John and Hannah’s daughters Elizabeth and Hannah) and Spiller (William Pursey married Elizabeth (Betty) Spiller in Pitminster on 24 August 1823.

I suspect there may be more about Hannah Pursey (Edmonds) and her family in the Mary Street records at Somerset Heritage Centre:

“The most complete early records to exist relate to Mary Street Particular Baptist Chapel, later Unitarian, Taunton (D/N/tau.mst).”
